Plastic Refractories

Refractory Plastic is a moldable refractory material with a clay-like consistency, made from refractory aggregates combined with refractory clay and/or chemical binders.

It is commonly used to repair cracked or damaged furnace linings, allowing for quick and efficient maintenance with minimal downtime. It can also be used to construct furnace linings, delivering performance comparable to refractory bricks.

Key Features of Refractory Plastic

• High strength, high density, and low shrinkage
• Excellent resistance to thermal shock
• Resistant to acidic slag attack
• Self-hardening and faster setting when exposed to heat
• Service temperature: approximately 1,650–1,780°C
• Easy installation by hand ramming or air hammer
• Ideal for furnaces with frequent start-up/shutdown cycles or rapid temperature changes, helping reduce repair time and furnace downtime

Applications

Refractory Plastic is ideal for repairing and constructing refractory linings in a wide range of industrial furnaces, including:

• Burner
• Furnace walls
• Furnace roofs
• Reheating furnaces
• Selected aluminum furnace linings
• Complex or irregular-shaped areas
• Furnace maintenance and repair to minimize downtime

Important Notes Before Use

• Refractory Plastic is supplied in a single material type and must undergo a dry-out process after installation.
• Following the manufacturer’s Dry-Out Curve ensures proper setting and curing. The heating rate and duration depend on the lining thickness and should follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.
• Skipping the dry-out process may cause the material to harden only at the surface, resulting in insufficient internal strength and reduced service life.
• For large furnace linings or areas subject to high loads, Anchor Bricks or an Anchor System should be installed according to the design specifications to ensure structural strength and safety.
